My research activities are part of Axis 1 of the STRAGENE research program and aim to elucidate how the growth environment (greenhouse or controlled-environment chamber), particularly light quality, interacts with the genotype to modulate plant architectural development. My work primarily focuses on rose plants but also extends to other horticulturally important species, including tomato and medical cannabis.

These studies have revealed genotype-specific responses to light quality in rose. While some genotypes modify their architectural development in response to the spectral environment, others exhibit high phenotypic stability and remain unresponsive to changes in light quality. Gene regulatory networks associated with this stability have also been identified, particularly in response to far-red light, a wavelength known to promote plant growth. This approach is now being extended to other wavelengths of interest, notably UV-B radiation, to determine whether these regulatory networks are also recruited in response to light signals involved in the activation of plant defense mechanisms. In the longer term, a better understanding of these regulatory processes should support the development of sustainable strategies for controlling plant architecture.
