I'm a PhD student currently working on the interactions between the phytopathogenic bacterium Xylella fastidiosa and the microbiomes present in its two habitats: The plant xylem and the foregut of its insect vector. Ultimately, my aim is to better understand the impact of these interactions on the adaptation and evolution of X. fastidiosa.

The main goals of my PhD thesis are to:

  • Study if X. fastidiosa infection induces a restructuring of microbiota colonizing the same habitats (dysbiosis)
  • Study if different subspecies and genotypes of X. fastidiosa differ in their interactions with the host-associated microbiota
  • Study the potential impact of xylem microbiota on the success of infection by X. fastidiosa infection
  • Study the importance of the microbiota as a potential source of new adaptive functions through horizontal transfers of genetic material to X. fastidiosa

Skills : ecology and evolution of interactions, community ecology, metabarcoding, plant-microbes-vector interactions.
