Carrot diverse and EVACarrot projects

Extent and organization of diversity - valorisation of genetic resources (Carrot diverse and EVACarrot projects).

Relevant genetic resources in breeding programs or crop management are a major challenge for the sustainability of the sectors and an asset for our research programs.

QuaRVeg continues to explore carrot and related wild species genetic resources. The phenotypic variation depending on the environment is studied in Chevalier’s thesis and the recent ECPGR EVA carrot project. We have shown a differential effect of latitude on development and morphological descriptors of carrot wild relatives (Geoffriau, 2019) with a collaborative project at European level funded by ECPGR to verify taxonomic identity, characterize wild accessions in European collections (Carrot Diverse 2017-2018). An association study based on GBS data is under progress. In an international collaborative study, we also reconsidered the interspecific relationships within the genus Daucus and the taxonomic organization of the Gummifer subgroup (Martinez-Flores et al., 2019). As a support to this genetic diversity thematic QuaRVeg is responsible for the coordination and animation of the Biological Resource Centre “Carrot and other vegetable Apiaceae”.
