Carrot unstructured population for association genetics studies

Because of their central importance in nutritional and organoleptic carrot quality, our research mainly focused on carotenoid accumulation even if other targets such as sugars or fibres were also investigated.

As we previously showed that the metabolites involved in carrot resistance are mainly constitutively accumulated, our next questioning was to look at the complementarity between constitutive and induced mechanisms of resistance.

Relevant genetic resources in breeding programs or crop management are a major challenge for the sustainability of the sectors and an asset for our research programs.

We developed crossed research combining quality and resistance but also involving other new discipline fields with sensory and medical research.

Prospection of wild carrot

The BRC vegetable Apiaceae maintains collections of carrot (Daucus carota L.) and tuberous chervil (Chaerophyllum bulbosum L.), which include scientific resources, mainly generated during research programs and so-called heritage resources managed mainly in relation with the national network of Carrot and other Daucus genetic resources.
